About the Foundation
Ismay Raymond fought diabetes for 25 years. She fought heroically,
with dignity, and always a positive "keeping God first" attitude. Her
four grandsons watched her battle the physical discomfort and pain of
a body breaking down under the duress, but never heard Grandma Ismay
complain. Even when doctors had to amputate one of her legs, she was
more concerned with the well-being of her grandsons and other family
than of her misfortune.
Ismay's family visited her every day while they waited for her to recover from the amputation. Sadly, she slipped into a coma. The family brought lively conversation and the laughter of her beloved grandchildren into her hospital room every day, hoping that the joyous sound would break the spell of her deep sleep. But after being connected to a life machine for 2 ½ months, the family made the life changing decision to let her go.
Today, there are five people in Ismay's family who are among the 23.6 million people in the United States who find themselves in the clutches of this disease. There are 1.6 million new cases of diabetes diagnosed in adults each year.
Myron Lewis, Hamin Milligan, Hanik Milligan, and Hanil Milligan, Ismay's loving grandsons, don't want to see anyone in their family endure what Ismay did. They want to help as many families as possible who's lives have been altered by Diabetes through education and treatment. Therefore, they put their hearts and heads together to build the Ismay Raymond Foundation.
